Biosketch

Sonia Smith, BSN, RN, is a United States Army Veteran and current Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner candidate at Nightingale College, where she maintains a 3.8 GPA. With more than eleven years of progressive nursing experience, she has served as Director of Nursing in Nevada’s largest urban detention facility and provided direct care across high-acuity correctional, rehabilitation, and long-term care settings. Her clinical expertise includes psychiatric crisis intervention, medication-assisted treatment, trauma-informed care, and interprofessional collaboration with medically complex and underserved populations.

 

Currently completing her MSN-PMHNP, Sonia is focused on advancing nurse-led telehealth models in correctional settings and expanding access to mental health care for rural and incarcerated individuals. She is committed to delivering evidence-based, patient-centered psychiatric care while contributing to systems-level improvements in health equity and quality.
