Capstone Work Artifacts

This implementation plan outlines a 12-week nurse-led telehealth pilot in a medium- to maximum-security correctional facility (~1,200 inmates) to reduce off-site psychiatric hospital transfers for mental health crises and suicidal ideation by 30%. On-site registered nurses facilitate secure video encounters with a remote PMHNP for crisis evaluation, structured suicide risk assessment, medication recommendations, brief therapy, and safety planning. Using PDSA cycles, the project addresses barriers (security, technology, training, privacy), incorporates ethical safeguards for this vulnerable population, and evaluates process/outcome measures via mixed methods. Supported by evidence on telehealth in prisons, it aims to improve timely access, institutional safety, and cost-effectiveness while advancing PMHNP leadership.

A subsequent refinement completed in MSN 690 extended my original model to mental health crisis management and suicide prevention.
